2) Show your WIKI pages to a parent; show how the pages are linked.
3) With a parent, take the Chapter 3 - 6 quiz again and submit it. This is just for fun so that you can show the process.
4) Click on the edit button on your reading page.
5) Put a horizontal line (the button on the toolbar above with the blue line in the middle) ABOVE your group assignment.
6) Have a parent(s) write a comment ABOVE the group assignment. Make sure he or she adds a signature. Save the comment.

It was fun doing this test with Maddie. It was challenging to see how much I could remember of the book. The WIKI page was nicely laid out and easy to follow. I loved the graphics that were used on Maddie's name on her student page.

Define the terms SUSPENSE and FORESHADOWING.
With your small group, find four examples of suspense. Write the examples as direct quotes on your WIKI page. Add the page number.
With your small group, find four examples of foreshadowing. Write the examples as direct quotes on on your WIKI page. Add the page number.
In a well-written paragraph, explain why your group chose these examples based on the definitions of suspense and foreshadowing.
Suspense: ~a state or condition of mental uncertainty or excitement, as in awaiting a decision or outcome, usually accompanied by a degree of apprehension or anxiety.
Foreshadowing: ~to show or indicate beforehand; prefigure
Four examples of suspense are:
"That's the lot," he muttered to himself. " EmilyBrent, Vera Claythrone, Dr. Armstrong, Anthony Marston, old Justice Wargrave, Philip Lombard, General Macarthur, C.M.G., D.S.O., Manservent and wife: Mr. and Mrs. Rogers." He closed the notebook and put it back in his pocket. (bottom of pg.13 and top of pg.14)
"Watch and pray," he said. " Watch and pray. The day of judgment is at hand." (pg.15)
"She looks frightened of her own shadow." (pg. 29)
I haven't seen Mrs. Owen-not yet. We only came here two days ago." (pg. 29)
"Warm streaming water--- tired limbs---presently a shave--- a cocktail--- dinner. And after---?" (pg. 36)

My group chose the events we chose for suspense because they made you want to keep reading. We felt that these quotes were right along the lines of the definitions. These statements sent questions running through my mind. They left you hanging and wanting for more answers. It made you think this person could be the killer. I chose the events I chose for foreshadowing because it gave me an idea about what could come later. The quotes reflected the definition of foreshadowing. I think the events above will be important later in the story and if I remember them I could start to piece together the clues I pick up along the way. I think this book is great so far and cannot wait to keep reading!
Maddie - Glad you're enjoying the book. You're right; the foreshadowing sort of previews what's to come - like a movie trailer that hooks you into wanting to see the movie. You can try to predict what will happen - which a good reader does - and then you have to evaluate if your predictions are accurate. You won't know that until more evidence comes out. Putting the pieces together - that's the trick!!!
